Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band – He is in his 70 `s , he is virtually the first man to even play a soul tune let alone form a band and tour for 50 years. Geno began his career in 1945 at the end of the second world war, where a love of the coolest swing and rock and roll came together to form Soul. Trained as an Army musician, he took the unusual step of never returning to Chicago and becoming Europe’s King of Soul. 50 years later we honour Geno Washington as one of the greatest live performers ever. So get your boots on and suits tied up because you have to dance. Another first time band at Vague Fest.

DJ Scratchy - Lord Scratchy of Hackney – was the Clashes Dj and continues their fine work with tours of Giants like Gogol Bordello and the Pogues. Rocking Gypsy Punk.

SATURDAY 24 JUNE

THE LOST STAGE
The Zutons – Giants of the rock and soul world , fusing glamour and glitz to a feverish jumping sound. The Zutons match the Vague vibe 100 %.
http://www.thezutons.com/
Julian Cope - Julian Cope is a British rock and roll musician and writer who came to prominence as singer of Liverpool pop band The Teardrop Explodes in 1978. Cope has since released many solo albums and is a founding member of the bands Queen Elizabeth and Brain Donor. In addition to his musical career, Julian Cope has written several books of non-fiction and autobiography. Cope is a legend , exploring every angle that no-one ever thought off and creating 20 albums worth of amazing music.
Noisettes - The Noisettes are from London, Their music is schizophrenically contradictive. One minute rough, raw and explosively dramatic, the next, detached, calm and serene. Shingai is a provocative lady with the most sublimely powerful and beautiful voice you'll ever hear. She also has a liking for climbing on to PA systems and applying tribal markings on her face. Dan and Jamie are two hairy guys that could easily vaporize a dog walking in front of the stage with their rhythmic rock and sleazy blues influenced undulations alone. . Possibly more intense live than the White Stripes.

Last Man Standing - Featuring the blatantly avante garde artist; Glenn Max. Crazed with weird influences from Zappa to Zapatita , a dirty bluesy, drunken and surreal act.

Kismet – An old Vague Friend and bizarre mix of Bhangra and Rock and Roll. Booming great Dhols and jumping Punjabi remix.

Audio Porn – Straight out of a strange place full of Glitzy Roxy Musicness into another 21st Century Rock and roll remix. The Porn are mega smart Vagueness specials

Burt Latino – Sir Burt Latino gets off making you think you’re spinning in a washing machine of crazy influences and strange breaks from around the Globe.

SOB – Zutonesque local heroes from Exeter

BALLROOM
Dead Brothers – To finish of the night of strangeness is the giants of Voodoo and Louisiana twisted music. Dead Brothers from Texas and Switzerland encapsulate a strange music about tragedy but always with a great humour, and bloody amazing BRASS. Probably one of the funkiest festival things there is.

Very Be Careful - From the Colombian Caribbean land of fishers and farmers, lovers and assassins, where accordion narrated tales spill from shops, homes, bars, and beauty salons, VBC has imported a vintage sound and an urgent agenda – DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!! And, like it or not, punker or sonidero, new-ager or new-waver, b-boy or cowboy, sober, drunk, or saved, few can elude the rump rousing radar of a VBC parranda. Oh my god killer dillas from Los Angeles playing vibed up Cumbia.

Superthriller – So androgynous, so glam, they bring the funky glamour of Bowie and Roxy Music to a Goldfrapp like sensibility with added Circus. In other words a big fat party band.

Urban voodoo Machine – A Southern Comfort infused mass of the weirdest and twisted rock and roll this side of an all night Vegas Strip

No Sports – Germany's very coolest Ska and Two Tone band, having played with Manu Chao and Easy All Stars . In Germany they are a massive madness of a band loved by all.

Powderham Tea Dance – Grab Your Partners for some dunking favourites with the swing dance sweetness of Show Ponys and dancers.

Plus tonnes of wicked aerial and cabaret artists

SUNDAY 25 JUNE

THE LOST STAGE
New York Dolls – Its unbelievable the New York Dolls should be with us. A complete utter legendary act that have aside to being the Kings and Queens of Glam Punk , shaped whole generations of musical out put from the Ramones to the Strokes and beyond. We booked them for their dedication to Glam and strangeness.

Hoof - (ex Lamb) Andy Barlow and his whole musical direction is something incredibly inspiring. A co founder of the mighty Lamb band and a new outing from this genius, he has never ever done anything that conformed to anyone, but always his music appeals with a “impossible” to pigeon hole brand. Here sneak previews reveal an unheard off mix of jumping new breaks and hip hop with a twist of frenzied almost Basement Jaxx madness with Brass to die for. Seeing is believing.

Acoustic Lady Land - Acoustic Ladyland is an electric jazz group that plays dirty rock'n'roll. The Observer Music Monthly tipped them as one of "five incredible acts to watch in 2005" and after the release of their new album Last Chance Disco they created an indelible impression on everybody who heard them. With a sound that grabs your attention like a smack round the face and holds onto it tight, Acoustic Ladyland have been thrilling audiences with their screaming, voice-like saxophones; raucous, distorted keyboards; sneering punk bass and some of the most astonishing drumming you'll ever hear. They've garnered critical acclaim for their live performances, Last Chance Disco and first single Iggy, from The Guardian through Artrocker to The Fly and beyond, along with regular airplay on XFM (and a live session for the station's new music guru John Kennedy) and a storming appearance on BBC2's "Later".

Julian Cope – An acoustic set from the psychedelic ledgend – See Saturday

Son of Dave - Benjamin Darvill, Son of Dave’s alter-ego used to be in the chart-topping Canadian rock group The Crash Test Dummies. However he is too crotchety to play with a band so decided to strike out on his own as a one-man band. Son of Dave is like no other one-man band you have ever seen. He uses a sampler pedal to sample his human beatbox and bass grunts and gradually builds up a the track into a folk/blues/techno frenzy that sounds like their must be at least six people on stage.
“I’m surprised every harmonica player in the world isn’t trying to figure out how to beatbox.” Says Benjamin Darvill (Son of Dave). “I can do it all, I can groan, moan, stomp on the floor, and if I want backing vocals I can sing high like a lady and loop that too. I’m not going to run away and join a band now am I!”

Lilly Allen – Hip Acoustic and remixed songstress, daughter of Fest Legend Keith and local heroine.

1000 Tragic Words
