Atlas Translations Becomes Accessible in Any Language

March 13, 2007 - Press Dispensary - There’s more to communication than speaking the same language, as Atlas Translations is proving with the launch of its new website at http://www.atlas-translations.co.uk . The renowned London based translation service has developed its new site to be as accessible as possible to all clients and suppliers, no matter what their needs.

Every aspect of the site has been overhauled – structure, content, navigation and look – to make a vast amount of information quick to find and easy to use, and to focus on accessibility.

“It’s now much simpler for all our clients to pinpoint what they need,” says Melissa Ridley, Atlas’s internet director. “A lot of content that was previously buried – details of our qualifications, free workshops, interesting information – is now just a click or two away. We’ve also got new features like the ‘Quick Quote’, which gives clients an instant handle on costs. And the site is more user friendly for our 6000 or so suppliers.”

Atlas, which provided interpreters for the 2006 Asian Games, is committed to serving the largest possible audience online. The site follows guidelines issued by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), it offers the Bobby web accessibility tool – meaning that the font size and colour contrast can be adjusted at will – and it’s speech-enabled. Atlas Translations’ brochure is also available on the site as a series of MP3 audio files, and brochures and quotations in Braille or Moon can be requested.

This degree of site accessibility enhances the services Atlas Translations has already been offering – in addition to its hundreds of languages – for blind, partially sighted, deaf and hard of hearing clients, including audio descriptions, reading-to-tape, signing and speech-to-text.

And Atlas’ commitment to its website environment extends beyond accessibility to its carbon footprint. In support of its wide ranging environmental policy, the hosting of its new website is carbon neutral as its hosting company, Rackspace, offsets all carbon emissions.

Clare Suttie, Atlas Translations director, says: “Like everything we do, our online activities put our principles into practice, from being as accessible as possible to impacting on the environment as little as possible. Our new, entirely accessible and carbon neutral website shows us putting our money where our mouth is. In any currency and language you care to name."
