Dot TK Launches UK Office
2007-08-16
August 16, 2007, Press Dispensary. Dot TK (http://www.dot.tk), the only online service to offer free web domain names, today announces this exclusive service to customers in the UK. Dot TK officially opens its offices today in Soho, London.
Using the Dot TK service, customers register domain names at no cost. With Dot TK’s free service, a customer’s website displays visitor tools and some third-party advertising. For a nominal fee a domain name can be upgraded, which grants the user full license rights and enables him to run his own Domain Name System (DNS).
Millions of international customers have renamed existing Web destinations with easy-to-remember Dot TK domain names. With the firm’s WatchDot 3.0 online content verification tool, Dot TK limits the exposure of illegal content and ensures its customers’ websites are without viruses and illicit content.
“We have gained serious momentum in international markets over the past years,” explained Dot TK President Joost Zuurbier. “With the rapid growth of our Web 2.0 application, we feel that it is the perfect time to offer our services to our customers in the UK. At our current growth rate, Dot TK domains project to become more popular in the UK than the .co.uk domain extension within the next two years.”
Since its inception in 2005, Dot TK has added more than 1.6 million registered domain names and has become one of the largest domain name registries in the world, adding an average of 8,000 new domain names daily.
Dot TK is a joint venture of the Government of Tokelau, its communication company Teletok and Taloha, Inc., a privately held company.

Notes for editors
Dot TK is the registered country code for Tokelau, a small group of islands in the South Pacific. The founders of Dot TK have had a lasting impact on the country over the past decade; when they arrived the 1,500 residents of Tokelau had no Internet access or knowledge of basic technology.
Zuurbier and other Dot TK founders taught Tokelau residents how to use computers and provided funding to install the necessary hardware to access the Internet. Today the natives of Tokelau have Internet connectivity and an advanced knowledge of current technology thanks to Zuurbier. Additionally, Dot TK has had a significant economic impact on the islands, comprising a double digit percentage of Tokelau’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Raw video footage of the Tokelau Islands is available on DVCAM and DVD media. High resolution images are available in .GIF and .JPG format. Video footage and images are available upon request.
