Paragon Makes Responsible Packaging Easier than Ever2008-04-25
April 25, 2008, Press Dispensary. Paragon Print and Packaging (http://www.paragonprintandpackaging.com), a UK leading food packager, is launching a radical new scheme to recycle self adhesive label waste for any UK business.
Following a pilot scheme to ascertain the benefits to customers and the environment, the service is now available to any business that wants to redirect some of the 50,000 tonnes of self adhesive label waste sent to landfill each year in the UK, as estimated by Paragon. The recycling service is available to existing customers, non-customers and label manufacturers who want to reduce their impact on the environment. Presently, manufacturers using self adhesive labels are left with a siliconised carrier paper after each label application. This carrier paper accounts for 30-40% of the total weight of a self adhesive label product, and for an estimated 30,000 tonnes of landfill in the UK each year. Paragon has a dedicated facility, based in Spalding, Lincolnshire, which recycles 60% of the group’s waste from its eight manufacturing sites. By utilising Paragon’s existing transport infrastructure, the cost and associated carbon footprints for recycling are minimised. Dennis Patterson, Paragon’s group operations director, comments: “Our recycling initiative is an integral part of our responsible packaging strategy to reduce the environmental impact of packaging in the retail supply chain. We are committed to assisting WRAP (The Waste and Resources Action Programme) objectives for packaging in the retail industry.” There is a minimal handling charge for recycling, making it generally a more economical option than sending waste to landfill. Businesses interested in the service should contact Tim Lennon, technical recycling coordinator, on 07970 80 57 81. - ends - Notes for editors FOR FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT |
