Student Information Hub Launches at FreshersTalk.com
2010-09-07
September 07, 2010, Press Dispensary. As students start heading towards Freshers’ Week, the realities of being at University are suddenly upon them. Although life as a student can be carefree, it can be challenging too: new experiences can range from dealing with study and socialising demands to household chores and awkward landlords. With the needs of all university students in mind, Garda Industries is unleashing a free and invaluable information hub called FreshersTalk ( http://www.fresherstalk.com ) that provides invaluable academic know-how and lifestyle advice, as well as running user offers and competitions.
FreshersTalk is the place to access a wealth of information about the various scenarios a student could encounter at university, whether they relate to accommodation, travel, living, money, relationships or study. Guides available on the site include ‘freshers’ guides', living guides, essentials guides, how-to guides and more.
In today’s economic climate, students should be careful with their funds and to help keep those pennies and pounds intact, FreshersTalk has forged links with affiliate companies so it can offer discounts on products and services from brands such as o2, PC World, Amazon and Adobe. A whopping 80% discount is available on Adobe software sold on the site.
Freeing up even more funds for its student users, FreshersTalk runs a competition called ‘Free Uni’ where one lucky student has a whole terms worth of university fees paid on their behalf. All they have to do is sign up on the competition page: entry is free of charge and the competition will be repeated by popular demand. FreshersTalk runs another competition where one student wins a makeover for their university dorm room and receives a selection of goods to make their space look stylish. Many more free competitions will be appearing over time.
The FreshersTalk’s bookstore is run in conjunction with Amazon, which supplies the products in its own reliable manner. Books are sold per subject - such as law, medicine, etc. FreshersTalk also sells packs dealing with specific areas of university life. These include the Essentials Pack (containing essential products students need to have, but without hurting their wallet), the Study Pack and other well-rounded packs that helps students study and enjoy university.
Gehan De Alwis, founder of Garda Industries, comments: “FreshersTalk is ideal for students who are about to attend university, students already in university, those who are in postgraduate jobs and those who have graduated and are seeking work. The site also caters for international students and for parents who want to see what university will be like for their offspring.”
He adds: “We aim to be a central hub and to make students’ lives easier – whether they want to know how to deal with landlords, spend their loan wisely, deal with debt, dig themselves out of an academic hole, what to expect in student halls, how to manage the weekly food shop, how to cook and manage personal safety issues.”
De Alwis points out: “Unlike some other online student services that have hidden agendas or may be run by the government, FreshersTalk is free, honest and impartial. We employ writers who are current students or postgraduates, studying for a specific degree and in a great position to pass on their personal, up to date knowledge. We feature a broad range of opinions and can help our users make the most of their time at university, as well as encouraging informed academic choices.”
