ATLAS TRANSLATIONS WISHES 'GUNG HEI FAT CHOI' TO NEW EMPLOYEES

2007-02-15

February 15, 2007 - Press Dispensary - Atlas Translations (http://www.atlas-translations.co.uk), the renowned London based translation company, has added two Chinese employees to the in-house team just in time for the Chinese Lunar New Year, which starts on 18 February.

The languages spoken in-house at Atlas already include English, French, Polish, Portuguese. Spanish and, now Chinese.

Clare Suttie, director, says: "The appointment of two new employees, who are joining our company on graduate placements, means we can extend Chinese translation services for a truly multilingual approach."

Atlas will be celebrating the Chinese New Year in style. Says Clare Suttie: "'Gung Hei Fat Choi', the commonly used greeting meaning 'congratulations and be prosperous', is often mistakenly translated as 'happy new year'. In fact, the centuries old phrase stems from the legend of Nian - a man-eating beast from the mountains that preys once a year on New Year’s Eve. Traditionally, people exchanged congratulatory messages for surviving the menace of this ravaging beast, which is thought to represent the harsh winter conditions. The latter part of the phrase is a recent addition and reflects the increasing influence of capitalism and consumerism within Chinese societies around the world."

Atlas' translation, proofreading and localisation vary in prices according to language.

The Chinese New Year begins on 18 February, 2007 and is celebrated over 15 days.
