Youbuymywedding.com Invites Guests to Share Costs of the Big Day
April 30, 2007 - Press Dispensary - Newly weds currently shell out a whopping £18,000 to cover the average cost of their wedding – and usually end up offering profuse thanks to their red-faced guests for a luxury assortment of unwanted toasters. Now the launch of youbuymywedding.com (http://www.youbuymywedding.com) is taking the financial strain off couples’ wedding plans by replacing the traditional gift list with an online invitation to share the costs of the big day.
It’s also good news for wedding guests, who are spared the ordeal of last-minute high street shopping missions to buy unwanted gifts. Instead they can simply log on to the couple’s personal wedding page and pledge money for up to 20 categories including invitations, flowers, bridal gown, outfits, reception, car hire, hotel rooms, honeymoon, rings, and cake!
Liz Quant, creator of youbuymywedding.com, says the idea was inspired by the experience of planning and funding her own wedding.
“This is a sensible, hassle-free way of making the happy couple’s big day even happier,” she says. “Weddings cost an enormous amount of money and it can take some of the fun out of things if you’re forced to borrow huge amounts, or to scrimp and save for years, in order to enjoy getting married in style.
“Youbuymywedding.com helps to ensure that the day’s major expenses are covered, and at the same time does away with the frustration of unwanted or duplicate gifts. After all, just how many toasters does a newly married couple need?”
Couples can use the site’s free demonstration page to choose the pledge items they want covered, and to decide how much they want to raise for each category. They are also encouraged to use the automatic wedding cost calculator to work out the total cost, and to see their selected pledge items displayed on their own personal wedding page.
For a registration fee of £49.95 couples will receive a client reference number which they may wish to include in their wedding invitation. This enables guests to log on to their page – which will feature a photograph of the couple - and select the pledge item they’d like to buy or contribute towards.
The site will indicate to guests which items have received the most support, and which still need contributions. Guests can make their gifts using secure online payment service Paypal, and will receive an email confirmation of their pledge, which can be made anonymously if preferred.
SMS mobile text alerts will inform couples whenever a pledge is made, and funds can be withdrawn at any time – good news for anyone looking to book that dream honeymoon in the Maldives or the Seychelles!
“The site will be useful to help keep tabs on costs, but I hope it will also be fun,” says Liz. “Users can sit down and browse with friends and family too, meaning everyone can share in the excitement of the bride and groom’s big day.”
