Second Life Unites 45 Countries for Luxembourg’s First Virtual Job Fair

- ‘Working Worlds’, 28 November, 2007

November 07, 2007 - Press Dispensary - A virtual job fair for Luxembourg, which aims to recruit high-calibre candidates to take up skilled roles, is attracting keen Second Lifers from 45 different countries world-wide. Set up by Gax Technologies and taking place on Second Life from Wednesday 28 November, 2007, ‘Working Worlds’ ( http://www.working-worlds.com ) is turning into a truly international event.

Registration for ‘Working Worlds’ began three weeks ago. Already, more than 800 candidates from 45 nations have submitted their CVs. All candidates are ready for a real job in Luxembourg, and hope to impress the recruiters with a successful virtual interview on 28 November. So far, 30 % of registrants come from France, suggesting a mass French labour exodus might be afoot; with 11% of candidates hailing from the UK, 9% from Poland and 8% from Belgium.

Furthermore, on Working Worlds, some of the most important financial institutions and recruitment agencies - including Dexia Bank, Kaupthing Bank, Randstad, Manpower and many more - will open the doors of their virtual offices to the 800 hopefuls. The recruiters and candidates are all represented by their Second Life ‘avatars’ (online personas). From behind their screens, between 8am to 9pm (GTM Luxembourg), the two parties will be able to check each other out and chat using Second Life’s messaging system or VoIP.

Cornelia den Hartog, managing director of GAX Technologies, says: “This is a first step over the border of Luxembourg and, better still, none of the candidates have to fly out of their country or even leave their own homes to gain the chance of a top job here.”

She adds: “This new form of virtual recruitment gives international professionals unparalleled access to Luxembourg, which has some of Europe’s highest wage levels and favourable taxation rates, combined with a growing need to add to its skilled workforce. In turn, Second Life gives Luxembourg access to a vast and dynamic labour pool – all in a brave new world of virtual 3D!”

At present, GAX Technologies is the country’s Second Life specialist, and hopes to share its knowledge with other businesses wanting to make the most of the growing virtual world.
