A Second Life for The Game and its Rules

January 11, 2008 - Press Dispensary - Neil Strauss, author of international bestselling ‘pick up’ book The Game, is bringing his newly published follow up, The Rules of the Game (http://www.easy2pull.com/ ), to a global event on January 13, 2008, featuring a live personal appearance, readings from his new book, an audience Q&A and a party. The event is to be staged at the Escher Lounge (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blue Horizon/217/217), a popular nightclub in the virtual world of Second Life, and will be broadcast live on SLCN.TV (http://www.slcn.tv).

When author and journalist Neil Strauss wrote The Game in 2005, he lifted the lid on the bizarre underworld of ‘pick up artists’, created an instant bestseller in the US and the UK, and became a household name across America. Since publication the book has spawned a global movement of pick-up artists and even “Lairs” (communities of pick up artists), with over 2 million members worldwide. The book has also helped a very large number of insecure men to start dating successfully.

The project started when Strauss – a self-confessed skinny, balding, unconfident writer – took on a journalistic assignment but then started living the life he was writing about, transforming himself in the process. He finally becoming known as the world’s greatest pick up artist, trying his Game techniques on Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Courtney Love and befriending Tom Cruise (whose character in Magnolia was rumoured to be inspired by the pick up artist community). Russell Brand has declared himself a follower, Kate Nash recently split with her boyfriend because he owned a copy of the book and The Streets wrote a song about it.

The Game is a non-fiction account of Strauss’ exploits and success. The Rules of the Game is a how-to book, the ultimate guide to landing the woman of your dreams starting at any level of experience. The challenge is to overcome insecurities through a process of rigorous self-examination, briefings and field missions.

In the second part of the book, Strauss journeys to the dark side of The Game, with tales of seduction and sexual (mis)adventure in ‘The Style Diaries’, travelling further than ever into the seduction underworld.

The Second Life event in the Escher Lounge will feature Strauss’s lifelike avatar, Neil Strauss Nitely, with Strauss himself using a live audio connection to speak through the avatar. He will deliver readings and answer questions from the audience before joining the party. The simultaneous broadcast on SLCN.TV will be viewable both within Second Life and on its site at http://www.slcn.tv. Broadcast viewers will be able to put questions via the Second Life instant messaging (IM) system.

The event takes place at 12 noon, Second Life time (SLT), 8pm GMT and 3pm EST, on Sunday January 13, 2008. It is a joint production between SL developer New Business Horizons (NBH) and SL media producer Phoenix Film & Television.

Numbers within the Lounge will be limited and places cannot be reserved, so journalists wishing to attend are advised to arrive early. Alternatively, the event can be watched live on SLCN.TV and journalists’ questions can be sent via the Second Life IM system to the event’s producer, avatar name Doctor Hickman.
