Robert Bouchard’s illustrious career started in 1976, when he joined Bell Canada and held a number of line and staff managerial positions in outside plant engineering, construction and contract administration, focusing on Bell’s operations in Canada. In 1984, he joined Bell Canada International, Inc. (BCI), a subsidiary of the Bell Canada group of companies whose principal activity is to own, develop and operate advanced communication systems. As chief engineering advisor in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia, his responsibilities included designing and building over two million lines for the Telephone Expansion Plan (TEP) of Saudi Telecom. Returning to Canada three years later, Robert Bouchard was appointed assistant vice-president, budget and results, with overall responsibility for the capital and expenses portfolio of Bell Canada Quebec Region. He then advanced to the role of general manager, installation and repair and customer services. During his time as general manager, he was given responsibility for supervising over 700 people, and for overseeing over 1.5 million customers in the Montreal area. From January 1993 until July 2000, Robert Bouchard was vice-president of operations support at BCI, successfully managing major international telecommunications ventures in Asia - especially with China Unicom in Shandong province; South America with the Axtel Group in Mexico; and in Brazil with Telecom Americas - before being appointed executive vice-president & chief operating officer (COO) with overall responsibility for the business strategy and operational performance of the company’s worldwide investments, as well as corporate performance. Robert Bouchard’s advisory roles include senior consultant to the president of SR Telecom, a WiMAX equipment provider located in Montreal, Quebec, and he is also presently a director of Montreal’s Airport, which oversees the management of Montreal’s two international airports, Trudeau and Mirabel. Mr Bouchard holds a degree in Applied Sciences with advanced training as a Business Executive in Finance, from Duke University, N.C., USA and Executive Development, from the Centre for Management, Banff, Alberta, Canada.
