Compare Car Insurance to Avoid Expensive Mistakes

December 28, 2011, Press Dispensary. A survey carried out by Sainsbury’s Finance has revealed that failing to shop around and review car insurance policy documentation in detail is costing Britons tens of millions of pounds each year.

The banking arm of Sainsbury's supermarket group found that UK motorists are collectively paying out a staggering 73 million pounds every year due to inadequate cover, with many finding that their car insurance policies will not cover them for expenses related to accidents, lost keys and other incidents.

These findings support advice recently issued by comparison site Tiger.co.uk. It is reminding shoppers to make sure that things such as theft of items from vehicles are covered within insurance policies, particularly now that drivers may be filling their cars with presents for the festive season.

Findings from the Sainsbury’s survey revealed that many shoppers admitted to shopping around for the cheap car insurance rather than researching policies in detail and making sure that they are adequately covered. Seven per cent of those surveyed admitted to having to pay out for courtesy cars following an accident after finding out that it was not being offered as standard by their insurance provider.
