Car Insurance For the Top Selling Cars of 20112012-02-02
February 02, 2012, Press Dispensary. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) recently issued a list of the top ten best-selling cars of 2011, headed by Ford’s Fiesta and Focus models. But how does this ranking stack up against the cost of insuring these cars? Leading car insurance comparison site Tiger.co.uk has produced car insurance quotes for each model to examine the correlation between a car’s poularity and the cost of insuring it.
Researchers at Tiger.co.uk took the cheapest version of each car and put it though their car insurance comparison process, analysing responses from over 90 different insurance brands. Using a fictional 35 year old man living in the centre of Ipswich with a clean licence and more than ten years driving experience as the driver, they took an average of the cheapest three quotes returned for each vehicle and re-ranked the table from the cheapest car insurance quote average to the most expensive:
A spokesperson for Tiger.co.uk commented: “When we looked at the top selling cars of 2011 and then examined the cost of insuring them, we found that there is a little correlation between the two measures. We found that the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus, Britain’s most popular cars by sales volume, were relatively cheap to insure – having the third and second cheapest car insurance quotes respectively. But the cheapest of these cars to insure, the VW Polo, was only the seventh most popular car. Seemingly a car’s insurance group rating is not the main factor in making car purchase decisions. However with the cost of policies having increased by over 50% over the last two years we would recommend all car purchasers to use a car insurance comparison site like Tiger.co.uk to make sure that they get the right policy at a great price”. - ends - FOR FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT |
