Nexor Brings The Latest in Tactical and Formal Instant Messaging to CWID 06

2006-05-22

May 22, 2006, Press Dispensary. Nexor ( http://www.nexor.com ), a provider of high-grade security products and services to the military and government sectors, is returning to the Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID) in June 2006 to demonstrate its latest developments in its tactical and formal instant messaging products.

Nexor Vanguard made a successful debut at CWID 2005, when the STANAG 4406 Annex E tactical protocol standard was trialled for the first time in the UK. As a result, Nexor is now working with the Royal Navy to conduct a series of ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship trials over the next few months. For CWID this year, Nexor will test Annex E by sending high grade messages, with attachments, using land-based HF radios. The trial will be run on both Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Nexor’s message transfer agent, Nexor Mailer, thereby showing the flexibility of Nexor’s technical design. The primary purpose of the demonstration is to prove the suitability of the protocol for both fixed strategic and tactical land environments.

Further to researching the applicability of instant messaging ('chat') in the military arena, Nexor concluded that it is widely used and growing in popularity. This creates a need for security and assurance. As such, Nexor will be demonstrating how chat can be used in a more formal context for collaboration between nations and security domains. Three main features will be shown: a chat session will be set up between local users, including a security label based on the organisation's security policy; a guard will be in place between the two chat sessions, ensuring only information allowable according to the security label can pass back and forth over the border; and an audit trail of the chat conversations will be maintained for accountability.

Nexor's formal chat will be available to see as a discrete demonstration as well as being available to the whole CWID community through the core infrastructure.

With this year's CWID activity, Nexor continues to demonstrate its ability to lead the field in military messaging development. Nexor's demonstration number is UK IT-08.
