Brighton Business - Taboo Adult Boutique - Wins 'Best Independent Retailer 2006' Award

August 09, 2006 - Press Dispensary - Taboo ( http://www.tabooshop.com ), Brighton's only licensed adult boutique, was named as the UK's 'Best Independent Retailer 2006' at the Erotic Trade Only (ETO) fair in Birmingham on 30 July.

Taboo stocks anything liberated people could want to enhance their bedroom antics. Whether the customer is male or female, straight or gay, single or coupled, all tastes are catered for in a relaxed and civilised environment. To ensure customers choose wisely, male and female assistants are on hand to provide honest and sensitive guidance.

When owner Tim Richardson, 38, opened Taboo, he wanted to challenge the stereotypical image of an adult shop and aimed to make the new store as accessible as possible. Taboo provides an environment where women, as well as men, feel at ease to experiment and explore their desires. Winning the award proves that Tim has been successful in his vision.

Taboo was granted the prestigious award by Erotic Trade Only, the only trade awarding body for the UK adult industry. ETO is a business to business magazine considered the 'bible' of the adult industry. The award ceremony took place on 30 July, 2006 at Birmingham's NEC and featured 17 other categories. Some 4,500 adult orientated businesses voted for the winners. Besides Taboo, 96 other shops were examined and five other shops nominated.

As Taboo was presented with the award, Dale Bradford, ETO editor,
commented: "Of the shops visited between May 2005 and April 2006, one stood out. Its wide stock range, the quality of its presentation, relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff made it an absolute pleasure to visit."

On receiving the award, Tim Richardson, who lives in central Brighton with his young family, said: "I'm over the moon to have been recognised by the trade industry. I'm particularly grateful for the loyal support of all our customers over the years."

Taboo is one of the many small, successful local businesses that characterise Brighton's economy. Since opening in 2003, Taboo has visibly contributed to the local community by sponsoring other new small business enterprises (from art exhibitions to club nights), supporting Brighton's free press and donating to local charities involved in raising sexual awareness and encouraging safe sex.

Tim Richardson says: "Taboo will continue to provide quality products at reasonable prices in an environment of high customer service. I'm hoping 'Best Independent Retailer 2007' beckons!"
