Press Dispensary - May 27, 2008 - [http://www.wanobe.com|Wanobe.com], the lifestyle site for mature audiences tiring of Facebook and Myspace, is launching a new video-sharing web-service enhancement allowing visitors and members to add video content to the site.
MD and founder David Noble comments: “Users can now upload, view and share video clips with one another. While most of the videos on the Wanobe site can be watched by unregistered users, those who are registered can choose to restrict access to family, friends and specific groups.”
Since its launch nine months ago, Wanobe is rapidly developing as a prominent social network and community across the UK and elsewhere, for people aged over 35 who are seeking alternatives to Facebook and Myspace.
Noble adds: “We believe that this will prove a big hit among our older members who want to share video content, especially those aged 50 and over. For example, many people today live long distances from other members of their family or friends. Sharing video clips is a simple, easy way to stay in touch.”
Noble stresses that Wanobe does not accept videos of potentially offensive content, including pornography, defamation, harassment and material encouraging criminal or dangerous conduct. He states: “All such material will be removed from the site as quickly as possible after we are made aware of its presence.”
In order to speed development of the new service, Wanobe used an external supplier, www.FLVio.com (pronounced “Flavio”), to provide the video web-service technical infrastructure. The FLVio web service handles the uploading, transcoding and storage of almost any video file format for Wanobe.com. Videos are re-encoded into flash video and then served from the FLVio infrastructure.
Andre Brown, CEO of FLVio’s parent company Locayta Limited, says: “Wanobe.com is one of our first clients and we have already had a lot of positive feedback from our initial testing.”
