Press Dispensary - June 13, 2005 - Digital agency, Underwired (http://www.underwired.com), has won the task of redesigning The Institute of Cancer Research's (ICR) website in a four-way pitch. The new site is due to launch in November 2005.
The first phase of the web project sees Underwired completely restructuring the existing Institute site at http://www.irc.ac.uk, providing interface design, site build and overseeing integration with a content management system.
The aim of the site is to showcase The Institute’s scientific studies and raise awareness of its research activities. Key audiences are the international research community, potential staff, students and supporters. The site will encourage visitors to become involved with The Institute - by spending time studying or working for the charity, or donating money.
Ian Clarke, research information officer at The Institute of Cancer Research, comments: ‘We decided to commission Underwired because its team actively understands what The Institute does, what we want from our website, and our desire to build on our existing web content. In particular, we were impressed by Underwired’s experience and collaborative design process, which allows us a hands-on role throughout the project. We are having a big input into site architecture and design.’
Jason Holland, Underwired's creative director – who was previously creative director of Lowe's digital arm, Head New Media - designed The Institute's existing website. He comments: ‘This is the first time we've competitively pitched for a website we previously designed. The existing site stood the test of time extremely well, which pays testament to the quality of the original work. Our second opportunity to develop the site and push it forward will give The Institute a distinctive web presence for the future.’
