Forget the Fumbling Best Man’s Speech - Ichikoo Delivers Wedding Films that Bring the House Down on the Big Day
Press Dispensary - January 07, 2008 - Wedding speeches can give the most confident groom, best man or bride’s father a dose of ‘stage fright’. The result can be dull at best or hideously embarrassing at worst, with unwanted anecdotes about the bride and her mother-in-law coming out to play. That’s why Ichikoo ( http://www.ichikooweddings.com ), a production company that makes documentaries and films for individuals and companies, is offering bespoke wedding films that can be shown instead of a stumbling speech on the ‘big day’.
Tim Earl, Ichikoo producer, explains: “We all know how it goes… the best man stands up after too many glasses of champagne, forgets his words, and then starts revealing inappropriate details about how he once stole a kiss with the bride – before falling over. Most people dread making a speech because it doesn’t come naturally to them, so why do it? Instead, a bespoke film can capture everything the speakers want to say in a controlled environment, before the event, ensuring nothing goes amiss such as nerves, intoxication or ‘cat-got-your-tongue’ syndrome.”
He adds: “We’ve already had an overwhelming response to our bespoke wedding film service and think it will be a huge hit in the ‘wedding season’ of spring and summer 08.”
The service is straightforward: after the speakers have written their words of wisdom, they visit Ichikoo’s studios and record the speech to camera (they can do this at home if preferred). The company’s experienced editors then insert photographs, video clips and graphics to create a stylish, TV quality film. Then, when it’s a person’s turn to speak at the wedding, they simply press play, sit back and take the applause.
Sometimes, Ichikoo is asked to be even more creative with its wedding film service. Says Tim Earl: “A bride asked us to make a film about her husband-to-be without his knowledge. She supplied us with photos and video clips of him growing up, which we edited into a stylish short movie. She gave him the surprise of his life - and the wedding guests a good giggle - when she screened it on their wedding day”.
He adds: “We recently had 40 wedding guests club together to make a film for the wedding couple. We spent an afternoon secretly filming them at a discreet location, and created a spoof documentary in the style of the ‘MTV Cribs’ show. At the wedding itself, when the best man asked for the lights to be dimmed, everyone apart from the wedding couple knew what was coming next. You should have seen the expression on their faces when the film was screened. It brought the house down.
“It rather beats buying the ‘happy couple’ some new linen or a toasted sandwich maker.”
As well as footage for weddings, Ichikoo makes films for other notable events such as birthdays, anniversaries, bar mitzvahs and funerals. “Whatever the occasion, a film helps the audience visualise a story about a past event or a long-lost relative far more easily than a traditional speech,” concludes Tim Earl.
Bespoke speech films cost from £995 upwards.
