PC Carter, UK Mr Gay, Triumphs at International Mr Gay Contest

2008-01-22

January 22, 2008, Press Dispensary. The third International Mr Gay competition took place in Hollywood last weekend with Mr UK, police constable Mark Carter, reaching the top three. The hugely popular Carter, Mr. Gay UK 2006 and the first ever UK entrant, wowed the judges and the crowd with his charm and dazzling physique at the glitzy Awards Gala climax on Sunday night. The ceremony was the culmination of four days of public appearances, photo shoots and judges’ interviews as one of 20 country contestants, all vying for the coveted title as future leaders of the gay community and championing the challenges of gay stereotypes.

Warren Short, Carter's sponsor in Hollywood and founder of newly launched online gay scene The Pink Peacock, comments: “It was a very close event and all the guys competing were excellent. There was fantastic camaraderie between the contestants and we are all chuffed for Mark. He’s worked really hard to get here and he makes a fantastic representative of The Pink Peacock. It's been an electric event.”

West Yorkshire police officer Carter, 25, comments: “I’m very happy with the result. All 20 competitors were great ambassadors for their countries.”

The policeman, who lives in Bradford and has the continued full backing of the force, adds: “I want to continue the work I started after winning Mr Gay UK in 2006 by changing the public’s time-worn perception of the gay man. I want to promote to other gay young men that you can be successful in a professional job like policing - this a huge step forward, even today."

Mr Argentina scooped the crown with Mr Venezuela as first runner up.
