Omniglobe Networks EMEA and Sat-Comm Ltd Introduce Latest FNG Technology at IBC 2010

2010-09-10

September 10, 2010, Press Dispensary. IBC, Amsterdam – OmniGlobe Networks EMEA, a leading supplier of communications equipment and systems for satellite and terrestrial transmissions, and Sat-Comm Ltd. are pleased to announce the debut of the much-anticipated Ghazala, a ruggedized, portable Fast News Gathering (FNG) terminal that is pending full MENOS accreditation. The news of the Ghazala’s release follows OmniGlobe’s recent delivery of the first MENOS-certified Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) vehicles to the Arab States Broadcasting Union, and reaffirms the company’s determination to further strengthen its position in the satellite and broadcast market.

OmniGlobe’s Technical Director David Bookham explained: “We have fully embraced the MENOS platform, and are very excited to showcase our industry-leading FNG product to the international satellite community at large. The Ghazala system is an ingenious light-weight, feature-packed terminal that is destined to become an essential part of the broadcasters’ tool kit. It is both compact and easy to use, and can virtually be deployed within minutes.”

“The new system will allow professional broadcasters to make the most of the MENOS TV and radio exchange network, sharing video and audio material in a fully-automated and cost efficient way.” Bookham added.

“The Ghazala builds on our track record in MENOS-enabled DSNG solutions.” said Rob Stanley, Sat-Comm’s Director of Business Development. “We’ve created an affordable and practical newsgathering solution that combines best-of-breed MPEG-4 encoding with a new, lightweight antenna and incorporates key features that really enhance the already brilliant MENOS concept.”

The Ghazala, which has already generated a high level of interest amongst the industry, is primarily intended for FNG operations within the ASBU-MENOS network but will also find applications in other IP and traditional satellite networks.

Designed for convenience and portability:
OmniGlobe’s Ghazala is the ultimate Fast News Gathering solution. Light and easy to assemble, it can be deployed without specialist involvement in less than 10 minutes. The powerful antenna fits neatly into 3 rugged IATA-compliant cases (for fast and easy airport check-in) totalling 50kg in weight, making it ideal for rapid deployment in the field.
In addition, the system incorporates several innovative design features such as:
 quick release reflector petals;
 low power 12V operation;
 innovative ball joints on feed arm support;
 lightweight carbon fibre construction;
 easy elevation – azimuth adjusting;
 optional Satfinder system including GPS/compass and DVB receiver.

The MENOS FNG terminal is conveniently packed into a shock-mounted flight case that provides ample ventilation as well as dust and rain protection. Its built-in functionalities include:
 MPEG-4 H.264 video encoder with SDI input;
 Audio visual monitoring with stereo speakers;
 2 channel VoIP telephone;
 trans-reflective monitor for daylight viewing;
 optional DV/Firewire interfaces.

A model of the Ghazala is available on display at the OmniGlobe Networks’ booth (4.B79b) as well as the Sat-Comm’s  stand (OE101).
