Car insurance Comparison by Occupation
November 23, 2011, Press Dispensary. Research carried out by independent car insurance comparison site Tiger.co.uk has revealed the cars most likely to be driven by people in selected occupations. The car insurance quote data from the site indicates which car makes and models are most popular within a range of professions.
So compared to the average Tiger.co.uk shopper, an engineer is more likely to drive a Honda Civic, a nurse a Peugeot 307 and a hairdresser a Ford Ka.
Job titles can have a massive effect on the cost of car insurance. A 27 year-old female soldier driving a 2008 Fiat 500 can expect to pay less than if she were a housewife, yet a housewife would pay more than a if she were a female investment banker. For professions where a driver could possibly be driving around famous (and therefore well-insured) people such as actors or footballers, the effect on their car insurance quotes is far more marked.
A spokesperson for car insurance comparison site Tiger.co.uk said, “There are some interesting findings here, but perhaps none that are completely surprising. A people carrier is quite a predictable choice for a housewife and reflects their need to be driving children around more frequently. A funky little car like the Ford Ka seems about right for a hairdresser and a reliable run-around car like a VW Golf makes good sense for a mechanic. We would perhaps have expected something a little flashier for an investment banker but maybe the recession has had some impact here too!
Occupation type has a significant effect on the cost of car insurance so we urge all drivers to make sure they are selecting the correct job title when getting car insurance quotes. On sites like Tiger.co.uk if you can’t see your exact job, don’t panic – it is most probably listed under a slightly different description. If in doubt, do talk to your potential insurer in order to make sure that you are not at risk of buying an invalid policy”.
